This Company Is Building A $200M ‘Germ Protection Hub’ In New Jersey

NUTLEY, NJ — An international health and hygiene company that owns brands such as Lysol and Mucinex is building a $200 million “germ protection hub” in Essex County as part of an expansion drive across the United States.

Reckitt recently announced that it is building a new “state-of-the-art” center at its North American flagship campus in New Jersey, which is located at 100 Metro Boulevard in Nutley.

The facility will perform research and development involving disinfection, microbiology, surface care, laundry care and personal care, spokespeople said.

Reckitt isn’t the only health care-related business with a footprint in the office park. Other tenants at the ON3 complex – which formerly housed pharmaceutical giant Hoffmann-La Roche – include the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine, Eisai Inc., and Quest Diagnostics.

Reckitt’s latest plans in New Jersey are part of a $600 million, multi-year transformation of its U.S. operations across two sites, including an over-the-counter manufacturing facility in North Carolina, where a $200 million investment will double to $400 million.

Reckitt employs more than 4,000 employees at seven manufacturing sites and three science and innovation centers across the United States, the U.K.-based corporation says.

The company relocated its North America headquarters from Parsippany to Nutley last year. Multiple New Jersey WARN notices – which are given in advance of mass layoffs – have been issued for both locations since 2025.
