Nutley Resident Will Exhibit Photos At West Caldwell Gallery

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The West Caldwell Public Library’s ongoing art and photography series will continue with Where To Stand, an exhibit of photography by Nutley resident Anthony Buccino.

The exhibit will run from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31 at the Richard R. Cass Art Gallery, 30 Clinton Road in West Caldwell.

Buccino is a writer, editor and photographer based in Nutley, who began his photography journey by shooting film for stories he produced while working for local newspapers.

According to Buccino, his photographs aim to highlight unique everyday subjects through different perspectives.

Buccino’s exhibit photos have been curated from his published collections of cityscapes such as New Orleans in Plain View, New York City Snapshots, Harrison Next, Jersey City Snapshots, and Nutley Snapshots.

Other photos capture simple everyday things such as Old Spices and items you might find In Our Old Kitchen as well as setting his eye on Gas Stations and a few eclectic touches of unpublished works.

“Photography challenges me to stop and see the world, and to try to capture what I see so you can see it, too,” Buccino said. “Sometimes I set out to shoot something specific. Other times a scene says, ‘shoot ME!’”

Buccino said his journalism background – shooting photos for news stories – continues to influence his view of the world, as well as his photography.

And there are lots of local opportunities for a shutterbug with the right set of eyes, he said.

“People have told me, ‘Aw, there's nothing around here to photograph’ – balderdash!” Buccino said.

“Where we're coming from in Essex County in northern New Jersey, there are so many places to shoot within an hour, and many are within minutes that we have some difficulty choosing where to point our cameras,” he said. “There are arboretums, private gardens, small preserves and parks that are waiting to be discovered by our cameras.”

Buccino’s work has been included in the NBAS Photography Exhibition at the Alfa Art Gallery, and solo exhibits at the Montclair Public Library and the Nutley Library. He is a member of the Essex Photo Club, whose meetings in Caldwell explore photography insights and offer competition challenges.
