Property Tax Bills Will Be Mailed Soon, Nutley Tells Homeowners

NUTLEY, NJ — Nutley homeowners should expect their latest tax bill in the mail soon, and the town is extending a grace period for payment in the meanwhile, officials say.

On Monday, township commissioner Thomas Evans announced that property tax bills for 2026 will be mailed on or about Aug. 6.

Evans said the town has received the certification of the tax rate from Essex County.

“Although the due date is set for August 1, the grace period has been extended to August 31,” he said.

According to Evans, after the state adopted their budget on June 30, the Essex County Board of Taxation was able to begin certifying 2026 tax rates. This has resulted in a delay, he said.

The commissioner said during this grace period, no interest or late fees will be applied. However, these charges will take effect after this period, he said.

Property taxes in New Jersey are mainly made up of three parts: school, municipal and county. An average Nutley homeowner with a property valued at $494,786 will see a combined increase of roughly $800 this year when all sources are added together, officials previously said.
