LBI Library Branch Seeking Art, Collections For 250th Anniversary Displays

SURF CITY, NJ — The Long Beach Island Branch of the Ocean County Library and local artist Cathleen Engelsen are looking for artists and art collectors to showcase work and collections in 2026 as part of the country’s 250th anniversary.

The displays are planned for September and October 2026 at the library branch in Surf City. According to the announcement, selected work will be shown in the meeting room and in the lobby display case.

Engelsen is seeking artwork and collections that highlight landmarks and events during 1776 along the Jersey Shore. The announcement lists examples including the Massacre in Barnegat Light, Cape May Whaling and Whale Boats, Huddy Park, Batso Village and Chestnut Neck.

The call is aimed at both artists and collectors with pieces that fit that historic theme. The project ties the local exhibits to the national observance of the country’s 250th anniversary, with a focus on places and events connected to the Jersey Shore.
