Brick Memorial Student Dies In Crash Near School, Officials Confirm

The crash happened on Lanes Mill Road just before school started, authorities said.

BRICK, NJ — A Brick Memorial student has died following a crash on Lanes Mill Road on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The Brick Township School District issued a statement confirming the death, saying, "This morning there was an accident that resulted in a tragedy for Brick Schools. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the student."

"This is an incredibly sad and tragic event for our community and we need to support one another during this difficult time," the statement said.

The district said it has grief counseling and support services available for all students and staff.

The incident happened about 7 a.m. near Brick Memorial High School, according to Nixle alerts from Brick Township police, who said Lanes Mill Road was closed in the area until further notice.

Details on the crash have not been released by law enforcement.

Parents of other Brick Memorial students who contacted Patch said their children, who knew the student, were distraught and came home from school immediately.

Lanes Mill Road remains closed from Michigan Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue as of 11 a.m.
