Get Ready To Walk: Brick Reservoir Reopening To Public
The Brick Township MUA is getting ready to allow recreational walking around the perimeter of the reservoir again.

BRICK, NJ — With the weather warming up there's been a persistent question: When will the Brick Reservoir reopen for recreation?
We have an answer: Tuesday, June 9.
"Reservoir improvements are being completed and Authority staff are preparing for re-opening of the reservoir grounds to the public on Tuesday, June 9th," Chris Theodos, executive director of the Brick MUA, said Thursday in an email to Patch.

Normal operating days and hours will resume "as provided on the website," he said.
The reopening comes almost 10 months to the day that the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority closed down access for work that needed to be done.

The closure, which started Aug. 18, allowed the MUA to make improvements to increase the usable water capacity of the reservoir and reduce the effects of erosion, according to the New Jersey Infrastructure Bank, which helped to finance the project.
The work included reinforcing the upper slopes of the reservoir to prevent erosion when water levels drop.
Before the reinforcement, the MUA could only draw water from the top 5 feet of the reservoir when it cannot draw water from the river. The infrastructure work stabilized an additional 15 feet of the slopes (down to elevation 80), according to documents on the project.
