Fundraiser To Cover Funeral Costs For Bridgewater Man Killed In I-287, Route 22 Crash

"He had a smile that could fill a room and a heart that was bigger than this world," according to Vince Veglatte's mother, Judy.

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — The family of a Bridgewater man who was killed in a crash on the Interstate 287 North ramp to Route 22 West on Monday night has started a fundraiser to pay for his funeral expenses.

"We are asking for help to give Vince the beautiful service he deserves because he was unemployed and had no health insurance. The family is facing financial hardship during this painful time," according to the GoFundMe fundraising website.

The fatal crash happened on Monday at 9:45 p.m.

"On February 23rd our world was shattered... What began as an ordinary day ended in a loss that our family will carry forever," according to the GoFundMe.

Vince M. Veglatte of Bridgewater was driving a Chevrolet passenger vehicle on the exit 14B ramp when it became disabled in the left lane. He got out of the car and was standing outside when a GMC SUV hit the back of the Chevrolet, then hit Veglatte, said New Jersey State Police(NJSP) Trooper Christopher Postorino.

Veglatte died from his injuries, and four others were injured.

"He was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, friend and a light in the lives of everyone who knew him. He had a smile that could fill a room and a heart that was bigger than this world. He loved his children, helping people and had a passion for auto mechanics. He loved riding motorcycles and sports," according to Veglatte's mother Judy in the GoFundMe.

As of Friday, the GoFundMe raised $6,295 of the original goal of $7,500.
