West Caldwell Fire Hydrant Flushing Will Take Several Weeks, Town Says

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — West Caldwell has begun flushing fire hydrants as part of its autumn maintenance program, which is expected to take five weeks to complete.

The town’s Fall Hydrant Flushing Program began Monday, Sept. 14 on Mountain Avenue at the northern end of the township. It will proceed to the southern end of the township at Beechtree Road.

The flushing will take place on weeknights between 8 p.m. and midnight.

Here’s why the work is needed, according to a municipal advisory:

“It is necessary for proper maintenance of our water distribution system. The procedure provides an opportunity to test the township’s fire hydrants and removes accumulated sediment from the water mains.”

“Residents are urged to check to be sure that their water is running clear before starting laundry during this time,” the advisory suggests.
