Battleship NJ Getting $24M In Upgrades: See Where

CAMDEN, NJ — A new era of the Battleship New Jersey Museum & Memorial is on its way in South Jersey.

A $24.25 million redevelopment project will give visitors new ways to enjoy the site, address critical maintenance needs, and add parking at Wiggins Marina.

"As a Navy veteran, I know Battleship New Jersey stands as an enduring testament to the service and sacrifice of generations of Americans," New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill said. "Future generations deserve the opportunity to experience this extraordinary ship and understand what it represents."

A total of $19.8 million towards the plan is being supported by tax credits through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority's Cultural Arts Facilities Expansion (CAFE) program, marking the largest capital funding boost in the site's history.

"The Battleship is an unmistakable part of Camden's identity and an enduring symbol of our city's strength and resilience," Camden's mayor, Victor Carstarphen, said.

Along with a $9.5 million visitor center, the $5.5 million parking facility and $6 million in improvements aboard the Battleship are estimated to take two years to complete.

Details regarding specific components are set to be released at a later date, county officials said, after plans are finalized.

Construction is set to begin in the second or third quarter of 2027.

Battleship New Jersey began as a living memorial and museum in 2001 and sits alongside Camden in the Delaware River.
