Dog-Sitter Facility Opens New NJ Location

CHERRY HILL, NJ — A new daycare and boarding facility for dogs opened on Wednesday, led by a family that has been caring for animals for nearly a decade.

Locals Lourdes and Kevin Vandvelt joined forces with co-owner Jen Seroka to bring a "Hounds Town" franchise location to 401 E. Oak Ave., Building C, Ste 103.

Jen brings nearly 10 years of work in the veterinary medicine field and in fostering and socializing rescue dogs to the team.

For the Vandvelts, owning four rescue dogs of their own led them to share their love of fostering into a family business.

"What truly drew us to Cherry Hill was the community itself," the owners told Patch. "We know the area well, and it felt like the ideal place to create a safe, welcoming environment for dogs while supporting local families and working professionals."

One of the highlights in what makes "Hounds Town"different is its "temperament evaluation process."

The team uses a series of steps to understand every dog's personality, playstyle, and energy level so they can be placed in a pack to safely play, socialize, and build confidence.

"One misconception is that dogs in rescues or foster homes must have behavioral issues or may not get along well with other dogs or children, but that's not always the case," the Hounds Town team said. "Dogs end up in rescue for many reasons that have nothing to do with their behavior."

The facility also operates under a "one-cost" method in order to eliminate the need to navigate between different packages and add-on services.

The "Hounds" team said they are looking forward to partnering with neighboring businesses, taking part in events, and joining forces with charitable initiatives.

"Dogs leave Hounds Town with what we call the 'Hounds Town Hangover': tired and happy after a full day of playing and socializing. For their owners, we want them to feel relieved knowing their dogs are well cared for, getting the socialization they need, and enjoying their time at Hounds Town while they're at work, traveling, or away from home," added the Vandvelts and Seroka.
