Clark's Kumpf Middle School Offering Camp Cougar For Incoming 6th Graders

The optional 2-day program covers study skills, team building, and goal setting; registration deadline is June 19.

CLARK, NJ - Incoming sixth graders at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark can get a jump on middle school this summer through Camp Cougar, an optional two-day orientation program offered in August.

The program is designed to help students transition to middle school life and will cover topics including study skills, goal setting, team building, organizational skills, and community service.

Two sessions are available:

  • Session I: Aug. 20-21
  • Session II: Aug. 24-25

Both sessions run 9 a.m. to noon each day. Families should sign up for only one session.

The cost is $50 per student, payable by check to the Clark Board of Education, collected on the first day of the program. Each participant will receive a Kumpf T-shirt. A snack will be provided; students should bring water.

The program is staffed by middle school teachers and staff, the school nurse, and Kumpf Peer Leaders (PALS).

An optional parent session on middle school life and expectations will be held Aug. 21 and Aug. 25 at 11 a.m.

Registration closes June 19. Spaces are limited. Families can sign up through the Camp Cougar Registration Link on the school's website.

A separate Sixth Grade Visitation Day is scheduled for Sept. 3, 2026, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The school noted that Camp Cougar is an enrichment opportunity and that missing it will not affect a student's academic or social progress.
