After Months Of Renovation, Opening Date Set For Cranford Library Children’s Room

Families will soon be able to return to an expanded space featuring new activities and updated areas for young readers.

CRANFORD, NJ — After months of renovation work, the Cranford Public Library’s expanded Children’s Room is set to reopen next week, bringing families back to an updated space designed for young readers.

The Children’s Room will officially reopen Wednesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, special guests, crafts, giveaways and other activities at the library’s 224 Walnut Avenue location.

Library staff have been preparing the space for reopening, including moving books and materials back into the renovated area ahead of the community celebration.

The project was supported by the Township of Cranford, the State of New Jersey, the Cranford Public Library Foundation’s “Room to Read: A Campaign for the Cranford Public Library,” and community donors.

The renovation project has also generated discussion about changes outside the library, including the redesigned parking area and pedestrian access.

During the July 7 Township Committee meeting, resident Rita Lobruto raised concerns about whether the updated layout provides a clearly marked pedestrian path between the parking area and the library entrance.

Commissioner Brian Andrews said he believes the property continues to provide pedestrian access and said he planned to meet with Lobruto at the site to review her concerns.

The library said the reopening celebration will give families an opportunity to visit the updated Children’s Room and take part in activities planned for the event.

The library thanked the community sponsors and donors who helped support the project.

The reopening celebration will take place Wednesday, July 22, at 2 p.m. at the Cranford Public Library, 224 Walnut Avenue.
