Cranford Fireworks Set For Thursday At Nomahegan Park

Celebration of the nation's 250th birthday is expected to bring road closures, parking restrictions, and large crowds.

CRANFORD, NJ — Cranford residents and visitors heading to Nomahegan Park Thursday night should expect road closures, parking restrictions, and significant traffic delays as the township prepares for its annual Independence Day fireworks display.

The fireworks are scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, as part of Cranford’s ongoing celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.

Township officials are advising attendees to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, as heavy congestion is expected in the area before and after the event.

Springfield Avenue will be closed between Kenilworth Boulevard and Orange Avenue ahead of the fireworks display to accommodate pedestrian traffic. The closure will remain in place until the event concludes and the area is cleared.

Parking restrictions will be in effect near Nomahegan Park, including posted “No Parking” zones on Springfield Avenue and surrounding streets. Vehicles parked in violation of posted signage may be ticketed or towed.

Officials are encouraging attendees to use alternative transportation options when possible, including walking, biking, carpooling, rideshare services, or being dropped off near the park to help reduce traffic congestion.

Parking will be available at Union College, located at 1033 Springfield Avenue.

Residents are also being asked to respect nearby residential neighborhoods by avoiding blocked driveways, intersections, and emergency access routes.

Members of the Cranford Police Department will be present throughout the evening to assist with traffic control and public safety.

The fireworks are part of Cranford’s broader 250th anniversary celebrations, which have included community programming and events throughout the year.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and plan for delays as large crowds are expected around Nomahegan Park on Thursday night.
