From Cranford High School To The Baltimore Orioles: Standout Shortstop Drafted

CRANFORD, NJ — Brayden Fry's standout high school baseball career has earned him an opportunity to play professionally.

The recent Cranford High School graduate was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 16th round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, becoming one of New Jersey's latest high school players to hear his name called.

Fry, a shortstop, helped lead Cranford to one of the most successful seasons in program history this spring, including the NJSIAA North 2, Group 3 championship.

During his senior season, Fry batted .465 with 10 home runs, nine doubles, one triple and 27 RBIs. He also stole 29 bases and scored 53 runs, establishing himself as one of the state's top high school players.

Over four varsity seasons, Fry compiled a .379 career batting average with 118 hits and 20 home runs.

The Orioles selected Fry with the 470th overall pick in the draft.

Before being drafted, Fry had verbally committed to continue his baseball career at Division I Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He now has the option of signing with the Orioles organization or attending college.

If he signs with Baltimore, Fry would begin his professional baseball career in the Orioles' minor league system.

Fry's selection comes after a memorable season for the Cougars, who captured a sectional championship before advancing to the Group 3 state semifinals.
