Cranford Police Launch “Keep Calm, Helmet On” Safety Campaign For Young Riders

CRANFORD, NJ — The Cranford Police Department is rolling out a new summer safety effort focused on helmet use, paired with a public service message aimed at young riders and families.

The program, called “Keep Calm, Helmet On,” highlights the importance of wearing helmets while riding bicycles, e-bikes, and motorcycles in town. According to officials, the effort is part of a broader push to promote safe riding habits during the summer months, when more residents are out on the roads and trails.

As part of the initiative, the department shared a public service announcement on its Facebook page featuring Cranford resident Randy Geis along with the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey. The message is designed to be viewed by parents and young riders together and includes information on helmet safety and proper fit.

The video also shares Geis’ personal experience with a serious brain injury following a bicycle accident and the long-term impact it had on his life, which officials say underscores the importance of protective gear.

In addition to the awareness campaign, the department said officers will be encouraging helmet use throughout the summer in a more interactive way, including issuing lighthearted “tickets” to riders who are seen wearing helmets and following safety guidelines.

Officials are encouraging families to take a few minutes to watch the PSA and talk about safe riding practices as the summer season continues.
