Traffic Study Planned In Cranford

The township will study traffic this fall around the 750 Walnut development as it nears full occupancy and continues to impact nearby roads.

CRANFORD, NJ — A closer look at traffic around the 750 Walnut development is coming later this year as Cranford officials prepare to study how the project is affecting nearby roads.

The township plans to conduct a traffic study this fall focused on the mixed-use site, which has continued to draw more residents and businesses.

The residential portion of the development is about 83% occupied, while commercial space is roughly 66% filled.

The study is expected to measure how the development is influencing daily traffic patterns, including commuter and school-related travel in the area.

Funding for the analysis will come from an escrow account set up by the developer, Hartz, allowing the township to complete the study without using taxpayer funds.

Officials said they have already begun making adjustments based on what they are seeing near the site.

“We’ve started to change some of the signage around 750 to adapt to what we were seeing on the ground,” Commissioner Brian Andrews said during a recent Township Committee meeting.

Andrews said the update was shared to keep residents informed as the township continues to monitor conditions around the development.

Once the study is complete, the township plans to hold a neighborhood meeting to review the findings and gather feedback from residents.

Officials said that input, along with the study’s data, will help determine whether additional traffic or infrastructure changes are needed.
