More than a dozen children were sickened by suspected mushroom edibles at an East Orange summer camp, one person was killed and several injured in a Barnegat Bay boat crash, and a Hackensack woman was hospitalized after barricading herself in her apartment and prompting a SWAT response. Over A Dozen Sickened By Suspected Mushroom Edibles

More than a dozen campers at an East Orange YMCA summer program fell ill Thursday after apparently eating mushroom-laced candy, with one hospitalized as a precaution, NJ.com reported.

Police said a counselor spotted a camper handing out candy to peers, ages 10 to 13, several of whom then reported symptoms. A suspect has been identified but no charges have been filed as East Orange police continue investigating.

Scooter Driver Injured After Losing Control, Striking Guardrail

A 41-year-old man was airlifted with serious injuries Saturday evening after losing control of an electric scooter and hitting a guardrail near Hamburg Turnpike and Vreeland Avenue in Bloomingdale.

No other injuries were reported.

Sinkhole Closed Route 18 South Friday Night

A sinkhole in the roadway shut down Route 18 South between Rues Lane and Main Street Friday evening, East Brunswick police said. Officers directed traffic in the area while crews made repairs overnight, and the road reopened by Saturday morning.

1 Killed, Several Injured In Boat Crash

A boat struck a channel marker in Barnegat Bay late Saturday, killing one person and injuring several others, including teenagers reportedly aboard.

The crash was reported at 10:56 p.m. The crash remains under investigation.

Barricaded Woman Hospitalized After SWAT Standoff

A 44-year-old Hackensack woman was hospitalized for a psychological evaluation Friday evening after barricading herself in her third-floor apartment at Park Lane Apartments on Union Street and throwing items out the window, according to Bergen Record and other media outlets. The Bergen County Regional SWAT team seized her shortly before 9 p.m. after she claimed to have a knife; no charges were filed.
