Plane Hits Truck, Light Pole On NJ Turnpike

A United Airlines plane struck a light pole and a truck on the New Jersey Turnpike while landing Sunday in Newark, injuring the truck driver and causing damage. A landing tire and the underside of the plane hit the pole and the semi, while the aircraft was making its final approach into the airport. The pole then struck a Jeep traveling on the turnpike. The truck's driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries but had since been released.

Man Killed In House Fire

A man died in a fire in Elmwood Park on Friday afternoon, authorities said. Elmwood Park police and fire units headed to a home on Market Street just after 2 p.m. on Friday, on reports of a fire. They found a man inside the house. He was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, authorities said.

Unruly Passenger On Flight Detained

An unruly passenger was taken into custody Saturday after an altercation aboard a United Airlines flight from the Dominican Republic to Newark, authorities said. Port Authority police detained the 48-year-old man without incident upon arrival at Terminal B of Newark Liberty International Airport and transported him to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. One other person aboard declined medical attention.

Man Arrested In Chick-Fil-A Mass Shooting

A Newark man has been charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with a fatal shooting inside a Union Township Chick-fil-A last month, Union County Prosecutor William Daniel announced. Jaheed Fields, 20, faces one count of first-degree murder, six counts of first-degree attempted murder, and two second-degree weapons charges. Seven people were struck by gunfire when shots rang out inside the Route 22 restaurant on April 11 at approximately 9 p.m. Six survived with non-life-threatening injuries; one was killed.

Man Dies After Falling From Ladder

A 66-year-old Monmouth County man died Sunday after falling from a ladder at his Heights Terrace home in Middletown, NJ.com reported.

Officers responding shortly after 10 a.m. found the man unresponsive and administered CPR before transporting him to Riverview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.
