Route 18 Closure Planned In East Brunswick: See Details
The closure is part of an ongoing drainage and pavement rehabilitation project that will make repairs on Route 18.
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Route 18 southbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured on Wednesday and Thursday nights as the Route 18 Drainage & Pavement Rehabilitation Project advances in East Brunswick, the NJ Department of Transportation said.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Wednesday until 6 a.m. on Thursday, and again on Thursday at the same time, Route 18 southbound is scheduled to be closed from Edgeboro Road to Milltown Road.
The full road closure is necessary to reconstruct the right lane on Route 18 southbound, officials said. During the closure, the following detour will be in place:

Route 18 Southbound Detour
- Motorists on Route 18 southbound will be directed to take the ramp to Edgeboro Road/Old
- Bridge Turnpike/CR 527 South/U and Left Turns
- Crossover Route 18
- Turn right onto Old Bridge Turnpike/CR 527 southbound
- Turn right onto Milltown Road
- Stay left toward Milltown/Old Bridge to cross over Route 18
- Stay right to take the ramp toward Old Bridge/All Turns to Route 18 southbound
This work is part of the $86.1 million federally funded Route 18 Drainage & Pavement Rehabilitation Project that will make repairs on approximately four and a half miles of Route 18 in East Brunswick.

Work includes milling and paving, improvements to the drainage systems and storm water basins, utility relocation, installation of new sidewalks and ADA-compliant curb ramps and upgrading guiderail, officials said.
Improvements will also be made to various intersections throughout the project limits. The project is expected to be completed in late 2027.
Variable messaging signs are being used to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. In the event of inclement weather, officials said work will take place the following night.
