Motorcyclist Hits Bear On I-78, Hospitalized With Serious Injuries

The crash with the bear caused the motorcycle to overturn and the driver to be ejected on Sunday night, said police.

CLINTON, NJ — A motorcyclist is hospitalized with serious injuries after hitting a bear on Interstate 78 overnight.

On Sunday at around 11:20 p.m., New Jersey State Police(NJSP) troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on I‑78 West at milepost 22.4 in Clinton Township.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Luis Borges, 31, from Phillipsburg, was driving west on I‑78, said NJSP Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron to Patch.

Around milepost 22.4, a bear went onto the highway, and Borges hit the bear, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject him, said Lebron.

Borges had serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available.
