Why More Families Are Joining Local CSAs This Season

As grocery prices continue to rise and more food is shipped across the country, many families are looking for healthier, more affordable ways to feed their households while supporting local farms and communities.

One option growing in popularity across New Jersey is joining a CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture program.

A CSA allows families to receive fresh, locally grown organic produce each week throughout the growing season. Vegetables are harvested at peak ripeness and are often in members’ kitchens within 24 hours of being picked, providing better flavor, higher nutritional value, and a fresher overall experience than most store-bought produce.

For many families, joining a CSA has also become a practical way to help manage grocery costs while gaining access to high-quality organic food. Shares for the upcoming season start as low as $33 per week.

The 2026 CSA season runs from June 12 through November 20 and includes multiple pickup locations across New Jersey and Staten Island, including Howell, Middletown, Montclair, Westfield, Morristown, and more.

Optional add-ons such as fruit, eggs, mushrooms, flowers, and honey are also available.

Beyond the food itself, many families enjoy the connection a CSA creates between local farms, seasonal eating, and healthier living. Members often discover new vegetables, reduce food waste, and develop a greater appreciation for where their food comes from.

For those interested in learning more or joining this season, shares are currently available but expected to fill quickly.
