The charges stem from a Dec. 12, 2023, response by the Galloway Township Police Department to the Sunflower Inn for a reported armed robbery. Police spoke with a victim who reported arriving at the inn to meet a woman. According to officials, Cook approached the victim while he was searching for the woman's room, brandished a knife and demanded money.
When the victim refused, Cook slashed the victim in the face with the knife, authorities said. The injury caused a large laceration that required hospitalization.

The case also includes charges connected to Cook's arrest months later. On April 23, 2024, the Galloway Township Police Department assisted the New Jersey State Police Fugitive Unit in locating Cook, who had an active warrant, according to authorities. Cook was found in room 214 of the Sunflower Inn and taken into custody.
Methamphetamine was located in the room, officials said. When officers attempted to take Cook to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, he actively refused to get into the police cruiser or walk.
Cook is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 1, 2026.
