Half-Price Adoptions Set At Atlantic County Animal Shelter

PLEASANTVILLE, NJ — Atlantic County residents looking to adopt a pet will have a three-day chance to do so at a lower cost later this month.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter in Pleasantville will offer all dog and cat adoption fees at half price from Aug. 28 through Aug. 30 during the annual Clear the Shelters promotion.

The county said the promotion is part of a nationwide pet adoption campaign held each August. The Atlantic County Animal Shelter has canines and felines of various ages, sizes and breeds available for adoption. The county also said purebred dogs and cats are sometimes available.

“This is our thirteenth year participating in the nationwide pet adoption campaign held each August,” said County Executive Dennis Levinson. “And we’ve experienced great success.”

Levinson also noted that adoptions provide loving homes for pets and that pets can help their owners by lowering stress, increasing physical activity and providing emotional support.

Regular adoption fees at the shelter range from $85 for cats and kittens to $110 for dogs and puppies, according to the county. Those fees include mandatory sterilization, age-appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and a free veterinary consultation. Dogs adopted from the shelter also come with free obedience classes, according to the county.

The shelter is located at 240 Old Turnpike Road in Pleasantville and is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Appointments are not necessary.
