NJ Man Strangled Woman, Stole Money While She Was Hospitalized, Beat Her Again After Release, Prosecutor Says

Seth Carr was sentenced to prison after beating and strangling a woman multiple times, one time causing a brain bleed, officials said.

PLEASANTVILLE, NJ — A Pleasantville man was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison after he punched and strangled a woman until she began to lose consciousness, then stole money from her while she was hospitalized and then beating her again after she was released, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Seth Carr, 25, was sentenced on two counts of second-degree aggravated assault on a domestic violence victim and third-degree theft.

On April 17, 2025, Pleasantville police responded to a domestic assault call on Ridgewood Avenue. A woman told police that Carr had strangled her until she began to lose consciousness and punched her repeatedly, causing his own hand to break, authorities said.

The woman was hospitalized on April 29, 2025, officials said. While she was hospitalized, Carr had her cellphone, according to authorities. On May 3, while she was still in the hospital, Carr used her phone to send himself $600 via Apple Pay, authorities said. She was discharged on May 5 and learned of the theft, reporting it to Pleasantville police, officials said.

On May 16, 2025, police again responded to the same residence for another domestic assault report. The woman was bruised on her face and head, officials said. She told police Carr had thrown her on the floor and repeatedly slammed her head into the floor. She was taken to the hospital with bleeding to the brain and a sternal fracture, authorities said.
