Hackettstown Honors Gold Star Families At Stone Dedication

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A new stone dedication brought Gold Star Mothers and Families together in Hackettstown on Sunday to honor loved ones lost in active-duty military service.

Mayor Jerry DiMaio spoke at the ceremony at American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 164 Blue Ridge, according to the town. He spoke about remembering those who died and recognizing the families who carry their memory forward.

“Their lives mattered. Their sacrifice mattered,” DiMaio said. “And because of them, we stand here today with the freedom to live, to gather, and to call this country home.”

DiMaio also joined American Legion Blue Ridge Post No. 164 Commander Dennis Dyer, Virginia “Ginny” Chiller of Blue Star Mothers of North Warren NJ and Jennie DeNaro Saum, vice president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 164 and chair of the Blue & Gold Mothers/Families Committee.

The town thanked the American Legion Auxiliary and those who helped make the tribute possible.
