'I'm Just So Elated': NJ Mom Reflects On Time At Newly Renovated NICU Space In South Jersey
Hayden's family was able to remain beside him for three days.

VOORHEES, NJ — Virtua Voorhees Hospital is bringing a new level of comfort to families undergoing some of the most difficult times they may ever face.
The hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) unveiled its newly renovated Ronald McDonald Family Room on Monday for loved ones whose babies are receiving care.
"It meant a great deal to have a space where we could regroup and relax as a family during such a hectic and uncertain time," Ally Goldstein, mother of recent NICU baby Hayden, told Patch. "It gave us the ability to focus solely on our son throughout the stay."

Hayden was born on Jan. 19 in the middle of a major snowstorm and struggled to breathe.
"I consider myself to be a very independent person, so it was difficult to give up all control and put the most important thing in my life in the hands of others," said Goldstein. "Luckily for us, Hayden couldn't have been in better hands."

The Ronald McDonald rooms offer families a quiet area with snacks, showers, and computers to create a home-like environment.
Two rooms with beds were also added to keep visitors to the NICU close by overnight.

Hayden was immediately admitted to the NICU, where his family was able to stay for three days just steps away.
"I am just so elated that other new moms will get the opportunity to be close to their babies both physically and emotionally," Goldstein added when asked about her message to other mothers who may find themselves in a similar situation.
The renovation was made possible by the Davis Family Foundation, a group that supports families facing medical challenges through additional resources and amenities.
Virtua Health provides care all across South Jersey with five hospitals, two satellite emergency departments, 42 ambulatory surgery centers, and more than 400 other locations.
