Man Stabs Girlfriend Dead, Kills Himself In South Jersey: Prosecutor

Crime scenes along Bilper Avenue and MacArthur Drive were both found.

LINDENWOLD, NJ — A 64-year-old man stabbed his girlfriend to death before he killed himself on Thursday, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said.

At around 11:30 a.m., detectives responded to the 500 block of Bilper Avenue for a report of a stabbing.

They found Marlene Carmichael, 53, of Lindenwold, who had been slashed multiple times.

She was taken to Cooper University Hospital and declared dead at around 2:30 p.m.

Detectives were able to identify Harry Gibbs, of Camden, as the man who was responsible for the stabbing, authorities said.

At around 3:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of MacArthur Dr. for a man in a car who had shot himself.

Gibbs was taken to Cooper University Hospital and declared dead at around 4 p.m.

The gun and knife that was used in the stabbing were both recovered by law enforcement.

There is no threat to the community, the Prosecutor's Office added.
