NJ Manufacturing Business Closing South Jersey Location
At least 125 people were said to be laid off.
BARRINGTON, NJ — International Paper will shut its Barrington box manufacturing plant by the end of September, the business said in a plan for strategic optimization.
International Paper, based in Memphis, produces shipping and retail containers to be used across industrial operations.
Along with optimizing its operations, the move to shut the Barrington plant is part of a larger effort to focus on higher-value opportunities and to better serve customers.

"This is a hard hit for our community," said Barrington Mayor Kyle Hanson. "International Paper has been more than just a business...it has provided good-paying jobs, supported countless local programs and initiatives, and has been part of the fabric of our community."
The business is also closing locations in Aurora, Illinois and Elk Grove, California, while ending preprint operations in Richwood, Kentucky.

In June, International Paper filed a notice under the Worker Adjustment and Restraining Notification Act that said 126 employees were slated to lose their jobs in September.
According to International Paper, employees will receive support with outplacement assistance, severance, and benefits.
Many of these employees have dedicated years, and some decades, of work at the facility.
The borough will work with Camden County, the State of New Jersey, workforce development agencies, and other partners to connect affected employees with resources, job placement help, and other support programs.
Customers are being directed to other locations in the regions that are affected to streamline supply.
International Paper also operates a container plant in Bellmawr.
Along with corrugated box manufacturing, the business also offers graphic design, recycling services, and retail display options.
International Paper is in more than 30 countries and employs more than 65,000 people.
