Flood Watch In Effect For Somerset County Through Monday Evening

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Somerset County and much of the region, warning that additional heavy rain could trigger flash flooding through Monday evening.

The watch, issued by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly at 2:59 a.m. Monday covers a wide swath of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and northern Delaware, including Somerset, Middlesex, Hunterdon, Mercer, and surrounding counties.

In Somerset County, the warning has been issued for Hillsborough, Basking Ridge, and Bridgewater, among other towns.

Forecasters said additional heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact the area Monday, with localized rainfall of more than 2 inches per hour possible. That could lead to flash flooding, particularly in areas already affected by flooding Sunday evening.

The excessive runoff may cause rivers, creeks, and streams to rise out of their banks, with flooding also possible in areas with poor drainage and in urban locations, according to the weather service.

Officials are urging residents to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to act quickly if flash flood warnings are issued.
