Hillsborough Democratic Alliance Honors Three HHS Seniors with 2026 Annual Scholarship
Scholarship winners embody the spirit of civic engagement and democracy

The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance is proud to announce the recipients of this year's annual Anne Iannone Memorial Scholarship, awarded to three outstanding Hillsborough High School seniors. Pictured with recipients Sarah Manrique, Steven Blanco, and Sydney Sowers are Hillsborough Township Committeewoman Samantha Hand and New Jersey State Assemblyman Roy Freiman. Each of the three recipients was awarded $1,500 to support their upcoming college education. As part of the application process, students were asked to write essays reflecting on the meaning and importance of democracy — why it must be actively protected and valued and provide input on civic engagement.
This scholarship was established by the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance in loving memory of Anne Iannone, a devoted community member who believed deeply that democracy is not something to be taken for granted. Since her passing in 2019, the scholarship has carried forward her spirit and her unwavering commitment to both her community and to the democratic values she held so dear. Last year's scholarship recipients were Sanjana Bhatta and Frederick Gordon.
Congratulations to this year's three deserving recipients, and best wishes to the entire Hillsborough High School Class of 2026 as you embark on the next exciting chapter of your lives!
