Route 206 Construction Update On Bridge, Utilities, Paving In Hillsborough

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Construction on the Route 206 widening project in Hillsborough is continuing, with Mayor Catherine Payne sharing an update from the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

According to Payne, ITS conduit installation is underway from Doctors Way to Independence Drive and from Opie Road to IHOP on the southbound side.

Sidewalk and curb installation is nearing completion throughout the project site, while seeding and haying for landscaping purposes is also in progress throughout the job site.

Bridge work also moved ahead on Valley Road.

According to the NJDOT, the bridge deck on Valley Road was poured on Aug. 21.

Payne said about 14 meters of deck remain and that portion is scheduled to be poured next Tuesday.

Utility work is continuing as part of the broader Route 206 project.

Cable transfer operations are underway, and several poles are anticipated to be removed by mid-September.

Comcast is scheduled to transfer its wire on Aug. 31, said Payne, after installing approximately 7,000 linear feet of wire through the project corridor.

The NJDOT update also says the gas main has been lowered in locations where elevation adjustments were necessary.

In addition, the hydrant in front of IHOP has been switched and the water meter has been raised.

For drivers and property owners along the route, the update notes that the majority of commercial and residential driveways have been paved.

That marks another visible step in the project as road, utility and site improvements continue along the heavily traveled corridor.
