Lightning Strike Sets NJ Retirement Community Ablaze
Two apartments were damaged in the fire, leaving residents displaced on Tuesday night.
MONTGOMERY, NJ — A lightning strike ignited a fire at a retirement community in Montgomery on Tuesday night.
At 8:29 p.m., Montgomery Police, Fire and EMS went to the Meadows at Montgomery apartment building on Scarborough Road after a resident of building 1000 reported smoke inside the apartment.
Officers found a fire in a dryer vent on the back of the building, and residents were evacuated, said Montgomery Police Lt. Jason Larsen.

Residents reported lightning strikes in the area just before the fire, said Larsen.
There were no injuries. Two apartments were damaged, causing residents to be displaced.

The displaced residents made arrangements with relatives for temporary housing.
Along with Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2, fire companies from Rocky Hill, Hillsborough, Griggstown and Kingston also came to help.
