Montgomery Invites Residents To Help Create America 250 Unity Tree Mural

MONTGOMERY, NJ — Montgomery is inviting residents to help create a community mosaic mural in honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, with each participant contributing a painted tile to the final display.

The project, called the Unity Tree Mosaic Mural, is designed as a shared art piece reflecting the township’s history, present and future.

According to the township, each resident is asked to create one painting that is meaningful to them. The tile can be a tribute to the past, a snapshot of the present or a hopeful look into the future.

When the mural is complete, those individual tiles will come together as what the township described as "a visual representation of a community rooted in shared history and united in its vision forward."

The finished mural will be permanently displayed in the lobby of the Montgomery Municipal Center.

"This mural is more than a piece of art – it’s a reflection of who we are as a community," said Mayor Neena Singh. "Every tile tells a story, and when they come together, they’ll form something greater than any one of us could create alone. As we mark 250 years of our nation’s history, there’s no better way to honor that legacy than coming together to create artwork that will be enjoyed by generations to come."

To help residents take part, the township organized a series of community painting sessions with space and supplies provided.

The first two sessions were held June 23 and July 11 in the Library Program Room.

Residents at those sessions painted a wide range of images, including scenic landscapes and tributes to local revolutionaries.

The township said those figures included Mary Dagworthy, Ephraim Anderson, Colonel George Morgan and Colonel Tye.

There are still two more chances for residents to participate in the mural project.

The next session is scheduled for July 30 in the Library Program Room. Another session is planned for Aug. 12 at Oops Art Studio.

The township said residents of all ages and artistic abilities are encouraged to join.
