New Whole Foods Market To Open In Somerset County

MONTGOMERY, NJ — A new Whole Foods Market is set to open in Somerset County.

The new location will open in Skillman on Aug. 21 at the Montgomery Promenade shopping center, 40 Nevius Blvd.

The 45,000-square-foot store will open at 8 a.m. on opening day, and regular hours will run daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Montgomery location will carry more than 1,000 local items from the Northeast, sourced with the help of John Lawson, identified by Whole Foods Market as its Forager for Local & Emerging Brands.

The store’s décor also takes cues from nearby Princeton, with what the company described as a collegiate feel that includes distressed white shiplap and darker shades of green, blue and black.

The store will include produce, grocery, seafood, meat, specialty cheese, prepared foods, bakery, and wellness and beauty departments.

Whole Foods Market said local products will include items such as shiitake mushrooms from Mushroom King Farm, EverCrisp apples from Hudson River Fruit, ice cream from Adirondack Creamery, hummus from Abraham’s Natural Foods, seafood items from Lagniappe Foods, and breads and pastries from Balthazar Bakery.

Opening morning, customers will be offered samples from Palazzone1960 and coffee from Paper Plane Coffee Co.

The first 300 customers in line will receive a limited-edition Montgomery tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon with savings of up to $100 off, according to the company.

To mark the opening, Whole Foods Market said it will provide a refrigerated van and food donation to Manna on Main Street.

The company said the organization makes regular surplus food pickups from local Whole Foods Market stores to help prevent food waste and serve the surrounding community.

Whole Foods Market said the donations are being made through its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, which is intended to help local food rescue groups transport surplus food to areas facing need.

The company also said all food sold at Whole Foods Market must meet its quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and more than 300 flavors, colors, sweeteners and other ingredients commonly found in food.

It said beauty and body care products must also meet company standards that ban more than 240 commonly used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens and microbeads.

Prime members shopping at Whole Foods Market can receive weekly discounts on select products and an additional 10 percent off hundreds of in-store sale items, according to the company

. Whole Foods Market also said customers can pay in-store with the Whole Foods Market or Amazon app, and Grocery Pickup will be available shortly after the store opens.
