Join Dr. Cătălina Florina Florescu for an engaging in-person poetry reading and talk. Drawing from her latest collection, The Brain Is the Ocean We Live In, she will share poems that explore themes of loss, disability, love, and community. Blending a playful style with deeply personal reflection, her work offers a unique and immersive literary experience.
Dr. Cătălina Florina Florescu is a Romanian born American professor, author, and mother. She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature with a focus on Medical Humanities conferred by Purdue University. She teaches undergraduate courses at Pace University and graduate seminars at Stevens Institute. Her books are catalogued at the National Library of Medicine, the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, as well as at colleges on US and international campuses.

Mile Square Theatre presents The Mountaintop — the gripping, imaginative play by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Katori Hall, directed by Jamil A. C. Mangan.
Set on April 3, 1968, in Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel, the night before his assassination, the play offers an intimate look at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—not just the icon, but the man. Through a powerful and unexpected encounter with motel maid Camae, we see his humanity, fears, hopes, and the legacy he would leave behind.
This electrifying two-person drama features: Hassiem Muhammad as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Kendra Holloway as Camae

Registration is now open for the 2026 HoBOOken 5K Halloween Run and Scary Scurry Kids Run, returning to Pier A in Hoboken on Sunday, October 25. Hosted by The Hoboken Shelter, the annual event has grown into Hoboken’s largest 5K race, attracting more than 2,000 runners in 2025.
To mark the launch, The Hoboken Shelter is offering a one-day registration special on Saturday, April 25, with both adult and children’s race entries available for $10.25 per runner. Standard 5K registration is typically $60, making this the lowest price expected to be offered this year. The offer runs online all day Saturday until 11:59 pm.&nbsp;
The Halloween-themed, costumed event features a USATF Certified 5K course through Hoboken, race T-shirts, medals, digital swag bags, and access to the official Race Village.
Proceeds from the event benefit The Hoboken Shelter and its mission to end hunger and homelessness one person at a time. Registration is available at HoBOOken5K.com.
