Final 2026-27 Budget Hearing On Tap For Holmdel Schools: See Details

The Holmdel Board of Education is set to host a final public hearing on the budget at Wednesday night's meeting.

HOLMDEL, NJ — The Holmdel Township Board of Education is scheduled to host a public hearing Wednesday night on their 2026-27 budget plan.

The meeting is set to take place at 7 p.m. at Holmdel High School. An executive session that’s closed to the public will take place at 6 p.m.

This final budget hearing follows the district’s presentation of its tentative 2026-27 budget plan in late March, which includes staff cuts, a tax levy increase and the elimination of courtesy busing in the face of the district’s roughly $5.3M budget shortfall.

While Holmdel Schools are slated to receive a $72,741 (or 1%) increase in state aid compared to the 2025-26 school year, some cuts are still necessary to balance the budget, officials said.

“It’s important for the community to understand that we looked under just about every stone,” Superintendent J. Scott Cascone said at the March meeting.

“The board members spent countless hours really digging deep into this budget – getting on video conferences, sending me questions," he continued. "They were really, really looking under every stone, and we established efficiencies where we could.”

While the district has established efficiencies in its tentative budget plan, they’re also slated to sell the Addy Lubkert house on 34 Crawfords Corner Road to Holmdel Township for $1.03 million, according to Wednesday’s meeting agenda.

This sale was approved by the Holmdel Township Committee on April 14, according to a report from the Asbury Park Press.

The purchase will be bonded through the town’s Open Space Trust Fund. The school board will need to authorize the sale on Wednesday in order for it to go through.

“It is our intent to provide the Holmdel School District with a cash infusion of a million dollars,” Mayor Rocco Impreveduto said, according to the report.

“That million dollars is something that they are certainly in need of, given the challenges that they’ve had,” he continued. “And it also would ensure that the property itself is used only for public purchase.”
