Family Promise of Sussex County Receives $5,000 Grant from FirstEnergy Foundation
Funding will support the FPSC's Housing Hope Temporary Shelter program.

Family Promise of Sussex County received a $5,000 grant from the FirstEnergy Foundation to support the agency’s temporary shelter program.
The FirstEnergy Foundation invests in transformative causes that enhance the vitality, sustainability and diversity of communities served by FirstEnergy’s operating companies, including Jersey Central Power & Light. FirstEnergy strengthens communities by working with local leaders and organizations and remaining responsive to evolving needs. The Foundation is a longtime supporter of Family Promise, having previously provided funding for the shelter program, case management and supportive services.
The Housing Hope Temporary Shelter program includes two one-bedroom units that provide short-term housing to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, along with supportive services and case management that assist with the transition to permanent housing. Temporary shelter services are an essential bridge between homelessness and permanent housing. The Housing Hope program brings an immediate end to homelessness and provides a safe, quiet place for formerly unhoused individuals and families to breathe, regroup, and develop a plan to permanently end their homelessness.

Homelessness is a growing problem. Sussex County saw a 21% increase in homelessness between 2024 and 2025, and a 178% increase in the last five years. Exorbitant housing costs, rapidly rising inflation, and cuts to benefit programs have left many people struggling to keep a roof over their heads. As the need in the community continues to grow, donors like the FirstEnergy Foundation play a crucial role in helping organizations like FPSC provide life-saving services to meet that need.
