Howell Affordable Housing Plan Set For Planning Board Hearing
A special meeting of the Howell Planning Board is set for a review of changes to the master plan for affordable housing.

HOWELL, NJ — The Howell Township Planning Board is set to hold a special hearing on Monday on changes to its master plan for its affordable housing requirements.
The hearing is set for 6 p.m. at the Howell Township municipal building, 4567 Route 9.
Under the fourth round of affordable housing requirements, Howell is required to fulfill a present need of 63 units and prospective need of 304 units, according to the ordinance introduced at the Feb. 24 Township Council meeting.

"Present need" refers to existing housing units deemed substandard/deficient and in need of repair. "Prospective need" estimates the number of new units that will be needed based on population trends.
Towns have until March 15 to finalize ordinances and adjustments to their master plans for the fourth-round affordable housing requirements.

In addition to spelling out affordable housing requirements and restrictions the ordinance defines fees.
It is scheduled for adoption at Tuesday's council meeting at 7 p.m. in the municipal building. The planning board must approve the ordinance first.
