Victim Fatally Struck By NJ Transit Train in Jersey City Friday
Pedestrians in two North Jersey towns were fatally struck by NJ Transit trains Friday.
NORTH JERSEY — Two people were fatally struck by NJ Transit trains on Friday morning, the agency said.
Around 6:20 a.m., a train on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail line struck a trespasser near Newport Station in downtown Jersey City, said spokesman John Chartier.
There were no reported injuries to the operator and the 125 customers on board.

Hudson Bergen Light Rail service was briefly suspended, but has since resumed, Chartier said. NJ Transit police are investigating.
Earlier on Friday, around 5:40 a.m., a NJ Transit train on the Raritan Valley line fatally struck a trespasser near Plainfield Station.

Train 5406 had departed Raritan at 5:09 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Newark Penn Station at 6:08 a.m.
There were no reported injuries to the crew or the 40 customers on board, Chartier said. New Jersey Transit police are leading the investigation.
