PASSING DOWN OUR PARENTS' STORIES
Celebrate Mother's Day with Speranza! What are your mother's stories? Enter a generative writing workshop where personal memory meets myth. Participants will explore stories they know—and wish they knew—about a chosen caregiver (parent, mentor, auntie, or chosen family), then reimagine them through the lens of mother mythology. Through monologues or short scenes, writers will create encounters between their caregiver and mythological mothers, or transform them into one—grappling with the power and burden that entails. Open to all levels, this workshop invites bold, imaginative storytelling and new ways of seeing the relationships that shape us.Led by playwright MC Crosby, this program is provided free of charge in collaboration with the Garden State New Play Festival. The Garden State New Play Festival 2026 is produced by Jersey City Theater Center in partnership with The New Jersey Play Lab and supported by funding through the NJEDA’s A.R.T. – Phase II Grant Program.
