Hudson County Man, 44, Dies In Chain Reaction Crash On Route 78: Police

A 44-year-old NJ man died in a chain reaction crash on a highway last week, state police confirmed.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ —A 44-year-old Hudson County man died in a chain reaction crash Thursday night, state police said.

Victor R. Fajardo, 44, from Harrison, was in the back seat and died from his injuries.

State police responded to the crash at 5:58 p.m. Thursday on I-78 East in Union Township, said Trooper Chris Postorino.

Police said an International box truck, a Nissan SUV, a GMC SUV, a Jeep SUV, and a Honda passenger vehicle were all traveling east when the box truck struck the rear of the Nissan. The Nissan then struck the rear of the GMC. The GMC struck the rear of the Jeep. The Jeep struck the rear of the Honda.

The driver of the Nissan sustained moderate injuries, and the driver of the Honda sustained minor injuries.

All injured individuals were taken to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information is available, Postorino said Friday.
