Lawrence Township's Princeton Pike Bridge Project On Track For 2027 Completion

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Construction is continuing on the $19.7 million Princeton Pike bridge replacement project over I-295 in Lawrence Township, a multiyear effort aimed at addressing longstanding safety issues tied to the span's current condition.

The project will fully replace the existing bridge, which is in poor condition, in part due to multiple collisions over the years. As part of the replacement, the minimum vertical clearance over I-295 will be raised from 14 feet, 1 inch, to 16 feet, 6 inches, a change intended to help prevent future collisions involving vehicles striking the underside of the bridge.

The project has been carried out in phases to help maintain traffic flow on Princeton Pike throughout construction. In June 2026, traffic was shifted onto the newly constructed southbound side of the bridge, allowing crews to begin work on the opposite side.

Demolition and reconstruction of the remaining side of the bridge is now underway. The project is expected to be completed in summer 2027, at which point both sides of the bridge will be fully reconstructed with the increased clearance in place.
