Fire Destroys Home Next To Cottage Where Springsteen Wrote 'Born To Run'

LONG BRANCH, NJ — There was a two-alarm fire Tuesday night at a vacant home in Long Branch, according to multiple media reports.

The fire broke out in a vacant property located right next to 7 1/2 West End Court, News 12 reported. That's the tiny, one-floor shack from which Bruce Springsteen wrote the album “Born To Run" in the mid-1970s.

The high winds that picked up overnight quickly spread the blaze. 7 1/2 West End Court was not damaged in the fire.

There is no word on what caused the blaze. But the fire is leading some to call for relocating 7 1/2 West End Court to the new Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music at Monmouth University. That's a Springsteen history museum on the college campus.

Sept. 23 is also Springsteen's birthday. The singer turned 77 today.
