Fall Paper Shredding, E-Waste Event Set In Long Valley

LONG VALLEY, NJ — Washington Township residents looking to clear out old documents, electronics and rigid plastics will have a chance to do so during a special recycling event next month.

The township will hold a residential paper shredding event Oct. 10 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Department of Public Works garage, 54 Rock Road in Long Valley.

The event is limited to Washington Township, Morris County, residents, and proof of residency will be required.

Residents can bring up to three banker-size boxes of documents to be shredded for free. An additional three boxes will be accepted for $10 each, bringing the maximum to six boxes per household. Township officials said the six-box limit will be strictly enforced.

Residents must supply their own boxes. Stickers required for those bringing three or more boxes will be available on the day of the event and do not need to be picked up from the DPW beforehand.

Officials said junk mail, magazines, books, newspapers, and already-shredded paper will not be accepted. Those materials can instead be taken to the township recycling center during its normal Saturday hours from 8 a.m. to noon.

Paper grocery bags are permitted, but plastic bags are not. Staples do not need to be removed, although paper clips and plastic binders must be taken out before documents are brought for shredding.

The Oct. 10 event will also accept e-waste materials and rigid plastics. Brush will not be accepted.
