Madison Home Damaged In 2-Alarm Fire, Investigation On

Madison firefighters contained the Kings Road blaze within 40 minutes, aided by eight neighboring departments.

MADISON, NJ - A basement fire spread to multiple floors of a Kings Road home Sunday evening before firefighters contained it within 40 minutes, officials said.

The Morris County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting the blaze at approximately 7 p.m. The Madison Fire Department was dispatched and arrived quickly, but the extent of the fire prompted a second alarm, bringing mutual aid from neighboring departments.

On arrival, crews found the fire had extended from the basement to additional floors of the home. Within 40 minutes of the initial call, firefighters had contained and extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighboring homes, officials said. Overhaul operations followed.

The Madison Police Department assisted with road closures, traffic control, and scene safety. The Department of Public Works and the Electric Department ensured hydrants maintained adequate water supply and disconnected electrical service to the residence.

Mutual aid was provided by the Morris County, Chatham Borough, Chatham Township, Florham Park, Morristown, Morris Plains, Morris Township, and Whippany fire departments, as well as Florham Park EMS. The East Hanover and Summit fire departments provided station coverage during the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Madison Fire Department and the Madison Police Department Detective Bureau, in coordination with Morris County officials.
