Son Of Holocaust Survivors To Speak At Mahwah Event

MAHWAH, NJ — A man will give a talk in Mahwah next week about how his parents survived concentration camps as teens during World War II.

Gerald Zaks will discuss “Bearing Witness for My Family: Surviving the Holocaust” at the Mahwah Museum on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Survivors of that dark period have been dying off, but Zaks has dedicated himself to preserving the memory of the Holocaust.

After retiring from a successful career in technology, Zaks began researching and documenting his parents’ experiences during WWII the Mahwah Museum said.

Zaks will tell a story that began in 1937, when Zaks' parents were 17 and 18 years old, and he'll trace their lives before and during World War II.

The pair survived several concentration camps and death marches, and were ultimately liberated, the museum said.

The presentation includes historical records, Nazi documentation, and audio clips from an interview Zaks conducted with his parents in 1980.

"His presentation offers a deeply personal story about the human experience of the Holocaust," the museum noted in a release, saying the presentation doesn't contain any “horrific” pictures. It's appropriate for adults as well as younger audiences, they said.
