Manalapan Police reported two incidents of fraud from April 15 through April 20.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Manalapan Police reported incidents of fraud, harassment, criminal mischief and more from April 15 through April 20.

April 15

A 78-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone used a computer virus scam to defraud the victim.

The person claimed to be an employee of an anti-virus company and advised the victim that their computer was infected, and several fraudulent charges were made to the victim’s accounts.

The victim was instructed to make a payment to clear the charges and is at a monetary loss of $5,000.

April 18

At 6:40 a.m., a 43-year-old Manalapan resident reported that their home was entered by a male subject who pried open a window, and the key fob for their 2024 BMW X6M was removed. The vehicle was then stolen out of the driveway after the person left their home. The case is pending further investigation.

A representative from a restaurant on Route 9 in Manalapan reported that the business is receiving harassing prank phone calls.

April 20

A representative from the Pine Brook Golf Course reported an incident of criminal mischief. It was reported that several areas on the golf course greens had been damaged by what appears to be motorized bikes. The monetary cost of the damage is currently unknown. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Manalapan Police Department at 732-446-4300.

A 77-year-old Manalapan resident reported an incident of fraud. The victim reported that their computer was “hacked” and they received a pop-up message on their screen to contact a phone number regarding fraudulent activity. The victim contacted the phone number and was coerced into completing a wire transfer to a fraudulent account in the amount of $3,500.
