So, how exactly does this work? The Belmar beaches are technically closed to the public overnight. Some people start at sunrise building their sandcastles, says a representative from D'Jais, especially the professional contestants or people who have done this for many years. But the younger participants, and the local summer camps that also compete, usually come at 8 a.m. to register and begin building then.
It all depends when you want to start building.
The rain date is Thursday, July 16.
