Ocean County Man Remembered For Love Of Doo-Wop, Singing, After Fatal Crash

MARLBORO, NJ — A Manchester Township man who died in a head-on crash on Sept. 11 is being remembered by friends for his love of doo-wop and his friendly nature.

Harvey Sattleman, 80, of the Whiting section, died after the crash on Route 79 in Marlboro, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Sattleman loved doo-wop music, something he shared regularly on his Facebook page, and loved to perform, frequently singing doo-wop and other oldies music a cappella with various local groups, according to friends who tagged him in posts on Facebook.

"This is the way I want to remember him," one friend wrote in a tribute on Facebook. "Harvey was my first friend when I moved to New Jersey … he was the person that introduced me to Garvey’s and told me all about the Doo Wop Events that were happening … sadly our lives went in different paths but I owe the direction of my current business to him!! Rest in DooWop Heaven Harvey… you will have so many singers now to harmonize with…"

Sattleman was driving south on Route 79 in a 2002 Toyota Camry Solara about 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 11 when he crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a 2022 Ford F-350 that was going north, the prosecutor's office said.

Sattleman was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to his obituary, but did not survive. A funeral service was held on Sept. 17, according to the obituary.

The driver of the Ford F350, a 52-year-old man from the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, also was injured but did not sustain life-threatening injuries, the prosecutor's office said.
