Flood Watch Impacts Maplewood-South Orange, Several Inches Of Rain Possible (See Timeline)

Thunderstorms are expected to arrive in South Orange and Maplewood – here's when.

MAPLEWOOD-SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — Things are about to get soggy in South Orange and Maplewood, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch and a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the two towns this week. Other towns in New Jersey are also expected to see heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

According to the NWS, several inches of rain are expected to fall between Monday night and Thursday. A regional Flood Watch will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and last until 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Monday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a steady temperature around 81. Southeast wind around 7 mph.

Monday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. South wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tuesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 68. Southeast wind 6 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11am and 2pm, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 80. South wind 7 to 9 mph becoming northwest in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
